When your teeth have suffered from trauma and have visible cracks or chips, we are often able to restore them using dental bonding. Dental bonding is a surprisingly high-value procedure that helps to repair cracked and chipped teeth. We can even use cosmetic dental bonding to alter the way your teeth look!
What is Cosmetic Dental Bonding?
Cosmetic dental bonding is accomplished with a tooth colored composite resin. This is the same composite resin that we use to produce tooth-colored dental fillings. This resin is a mixture of particles of glass and plastic that is mixed with a bonding resin. When mixed, we control the coloration of the resin to match the color of your tooth exactly. The composite resin is the same consistency as putty or clay, which allows us to mold it and shape it however we like. This allows us to rebuild your tooth in a permanent and functional way.
Who Needs Cosmetic Dental Bonding?
There are a few different reasons that you could benefit from cosmetic dental bonding. You can benefit from cosmetic dental bonding if you:
- Have visible cracks in your teeth
- Have visible chips in your teeth
- Suffer from spacing issues with your teeth
- Have teeth that are misshapen
- Would like to alter the aesthetic of your smile quickly for a low cost
Dental bonding is a great way to spruce up your smile!
Cosmetic Dental Bonding Procedure
Our first step before we start any procedure here at Marketplace Dental Excellence is to ensure your comfort. Quite often no anesthesia is needed when performing dental bonding, but if you are nervous all you have to do is let us know, and we can administer dental sedation. Once we are certain that you are comfortable, we can begin the dental bonding procedure.
We start by preparing the teeth to receive the dental bond. We prepare the teeth to receive the dental bond by trimming the enamel as needed and adding some texture to the surface of the tooth so that the dental bonding resin will have more surface area to gain purchase on your tooth. We accomplish this texturing by etching some small lines into the surface of the tooth. Once the tooth has been prepared, we will use a shade guide to help us determine the exact coloration of your tooth. We will use the shade guide to mix the composite bonding agent, and we will apply it to your tooth. As mentioned above, when the bonding agent is applied to the tooth it is a similar consistency to putty or clay, so we can shape it into whatever looks most natural. Finally, we will set in in place permanently using a special ultraviolet light.
