Types of Braces
While braces are what most people think of when they think of tooth alignment systems, they are not the only choice at Marketplace Dental Excellence. In fact, one of the most popular tooth alignment systems that we offer now is called Invisalign. Let’s take a look at the most popular teeth alignment system and how they can help you achieve your cosmetic orthodontic goals.
Traditional braces refer to braces that use bracket, wire and rubber bands to move your teeth from where they are to where we want them to be. The brackets are placed on the surface of your teeth and glued there with a permanent dental cement. A wire is run around all the brackets and is affixed to the brackets with small rubber bands. Traditional braces standoff of your teeth and are known to be somewhat uncomfortable for a few different reasons. The brackets and the wires will tend to rub against the soft tissues of your cheeks and can cause some discomfort. Traditional braces are effective in orthodontic applications and produce results reasonably quickly.
Traditional braces can be a bit of a hassle when it comes to eating and cleaning. It is strongly advised that you avoid certain foods that could do damage to your braces, as they are permanently affixed to your teeth. Flossing and brushing can bite somewhat difficult as well because you have to work with the wires and brackets of the braces.
Invisalign keeps all of the great things about braces and does away with everything that makes them a hassle. Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic trays that are removable to move your teeth from where they are to where we want them. You wear the trays day and night and remove them to eat and brush your teeth. As your teeth move from one place to another, you will graduate from one set of trays to the next. The best part about the Invisalign system is that they are invisible on your teeth! No one will ever know that you are straightening your teeth, which is a big deal for many patients.
